sigh. winter is encroaching upon on my fair city - and i am about as thrilled as lucy is. here are a few random thoughts for the last week of october:
1. on the positive side, i am moving in 5 weeks to a place with UNDERGROUND HEATED PARKING. i can not overstate the degree to which this move will improve my quality of life. last winter, living in a house with a garage, winter was more bearable than any other year. this winter, not only will i have a frost-free car, but i will also have a pool and gym IN THE BUILDING. feel free to whup my behind if i don't take advantage of these perks.
2. i did a one day stint as a temp a couple of weeks ago. it was supposed to be a few weeks, but when i showed up, none of the bosses in the office knew i was coming, and they didn't want me doing any of the tasks i was hired to do. when the head honcho told me they would "think of something" for me to do, and i saw the words "MENIAL TASKS" printed on his forehead, i chose not to return to that location. turns out a junior dude told hr (located in another city) that someone was needed, but neglected to check with the mucky-mucks. the temp agency that sent me was very apologetic and all is well, but i must confess, it was not the most fun assignment i have ever been sent on!
3. i am doing another assignment now - duration TBD. i will be the project assistant for an IT overhaul and implementation within a government of alberta organization. it is right up the alley i have been contemplating for months now. which leads me to ...
4. i am going back to school! on a very p/t basis, as in one weekend a month for 12 months starting in january. at the end i should be (somewhat) ready to pass the project management institute's exam and get to add some more initials to the end of my name. after accepting carrie's assessment that i have employment ADD, and pondering what i can do that will challenge me and give me a sense of accomplishment i determined to try the project management route. it can afford me the diversity i need, as well as utilize skills i already have. so, hopefully the temp assignment will give me a clear idea of whether or not this is a path i want to pursue.
5. the play's the thing!! for those not in the know, i am doing a production of "much ado about nothing" (running december 1-11, 2010 at walterdale theatre!) and after 6 weeks of rehearsing in other places, we moved into the theatre this week. very, very cool. despite having a small part (lady in waiting, ursula - sexiest name ever!), i am having a tough time memorizing lines. i can still remember the poem i memorized at age 8, but these few lines and their cues? ARGH! i have to be off book by tuesday. yikes.
6. my plans for getting my stuff out of storage (AKA: the road trip) have changed substantially. now that i am working, i can't take 3 weeks off to go south, AND i found out the company that stores my stuff will deliver the pod anywhere in the US. destination of choice: seattle. this means there will be trips taken to SLC, boise, and LA independent of the stuff gathering. details to follow. what is going to happen is this: fly to vancouver (hi, teesh!) rent a vehicle, drive down to seattle (hi moh!) and move stuff from storage to rented vehicle. also, hopefully visit with others in that vicinity (hi, kati & keri-ann!). when will this happen? early in the new year! also, another trip - to nashville (hi, sarah!) - is in the works. 2011 is gonna be a busy year!
alrighty, then. that should hold you until i can come up with something entertaining!

SOOOOO jealous that you get covered parking. i know i'd whine less if i didn't have to scrape my car. but your new place does sound great.
glad you included slc in your trip plans, whenever they happen. :P
i'm bummed that your show doesn't run later in december, cause i'd come see you! i hope you memorize your lines soon. break a leg!
It's so good to hear about what's going on with you! The new place sounds great! I wish I could make it up to see your play. :-(
Afton
I am unfamiliar with Canadian geography. Is Winnipeg near any of those places?
So good to see a post from you. Sorry to hear about the trip being shortened, but glad you are getting your stuff. I am SOOOOOOOOOO jealous that you get to visit keri-ann. I've been missing her lately :o)
But wait..... you aren't going to come see us in LA LA land? Not even winter in Alberta can coax you away to the land of sunshine and plenty? MISS YOU!
Yippee! Let us know when you do come to Seattle for sure!
Thanks for the update, Cath! Good luck with the show, the move, and the job--wow, that's a lot of changes. Hope they all turn out for the best!
Is Nashville close enough to Austin that you could stop by? We could meet in the middle... I have a spare bedroom with your name on it and promise to fill the guest bathroom with all of the travel size Crest toothpastes I can find! (I'll have to go back and check your blog post. I'm not sure I have the toothpaste specifications exactly correct...)
